Abstract

This article offers a panoramic view of the cultural development of Holguin City, since the foundation of the San Isidoro de Holguin, as a cattleland in 1545. Other topics dealt with in this work are: Holguin´s historic evolution, acquisition of the status of town in 1752, the economic, political and social bases of its development, as well as the most important changes that took place during the 19th century. The urban outspread of the town during the 20th century and its architecture is given a relevant importance in this work. Finally, the author made reference to the development of the territory within the revolutionary period. The objective was to value the most important cultural facts which influenced upon the historic evolution and the development of Holguin as a city. The methods used were: synthesis-analysis, logic- historic and documentary analysis.
