EDULECTURA: Experiences on the reading promotion in the initial training of professionals of pedagogical sciences

This paper is one of the results of a broader research project: “Promoting reading as a way to improve the initial formation process of professionals majoring in pedagogical sciences.” The research problem is related to the insufficient development of reading habits and skills of the in-training students. Consequently, the work is intended to demonstrate the pertinence of a project to foster reading and its instructive and educative value in order to train new generations of educators. Analysis-synthesis was one the theoretical methods used to systematize the theory on the promotion of reading, and to support the proposal of actions to put the project into practice in the several pedagogical majors at the University of Holguín. Observation was the essential empirical method to corroborate the effectiveness of the implemented actions, their re-elaboration, and re-implementation in the different educational settings where the in-training educators will carry out this project. As a result of these actions, there has been a positive transformation in the development of reading habits and skills, as well as an enhancement of the motivation, the sensibility and love for reading in different social contexts and settings. Obviously, these results are backed up by the pertinence of this project which aims at achieving a high qualified education, as established by the 2030 Agenda for a sustainable development, of the United Nations Organization.
