Formation and teaching of a Cuban Philosophy between 1838 and 1839 IV

The article presented aims to analyze the content of the three publications that generated the outbreak, in May 1838, of the Philosophical Polemic, in which the contenders provide the conceptualization that accelerates the formation of a Cuban Philosophy. The author examines the positions assumed by the two adversaries who starred in the beginning of the Philosophical Polemic: José de la Luz y Caballero and Manuel Castellanos Mojarrieta. The first symbolizes the national interests in formation and the patriotic education of Cuban youth. The second personifies the interests of colonial education, imposed by the Spanish metropolis and manifests himself as a defender of the positions of the eclecticism of the French philosopher Victor Cousin in Port-au-Prince. The theorization deployed in this confrontation traces the epistemological guidelines that direct and specify the process of formation and teaching of a Cuban and independent Philosophy between 1838 and 1839.
