Abstract

The formation of values represents an element of great importance in the educational work of today’s youth; thus, the theme being addressed is an essential part of higher education, in order to promote the development of appropriate beliefs and behaviors in the future professionals. This idea led to the development of several recommendations on how to use Martí´s writings in the reading lessons of the subject Integrated Practice of the English Language in the major Bachelor in Education, Foreign Languages: English, in order to strengthen the values of the students in training. Moreover, modern theoretical concepts regarding the reading ability were also given. Theoretical and empirical methods such as: analysis-synthesis, induction-deduction, document review, as well as participant observation were used; these combined with the authors’ experience, revealed the feasibility and applicability of the proposal, which can be used in other contexts of learning.
