Motivation towards teaching as a profession through José de la Luz y Caballero´s pedagogical conceptions

This article presented some reflections about motivation and professional interests, the relationships that were established between these categories and their importance for the formation of the future teachers, as well as an analysis of previous studies carried out about this topic. Special attention was given to the contradiction that was seen between the high levels of motivation towards the specialty shown by first year English students and the low levels of motivation they show regarding the pedagogical profession. The article offers important elements that emphasize on the need of stimulating professional interests on these students and a set of teaching tasks designed with this purpose that at the same time promotes the study of Jose de la Luz y Caballero pedagogical ideas.
