The García-Castañeda family and the legacy of their traditions

Abstract

Much research has been done on the family in Cuba. One aspect revealed was the incomplete insight into the family traditions during the pseudo republic. This material presents a characterization of the García Castañeda family from Holguín, and their traditions; departing from the identification and the analysis of those that influenced the members of the Castañeda family the most. The method applied was the case study. This investigation was developed taking into account the information found in the García Castañeda’s Archives, belonging to La Periquera Museum, at the state files; likewise interviews to municipality investigators and persons that met the family were made. This family stands as a model of traditions, especially those of an occupational projection, along with a significant influence on its members’ education. Such potential can be exploited today as a part of the school-family relations, towards the implementation of a set of activities that favor the formation of the new generations.
