Caribbean Identity: a Constant in the Cuban and the Dominican Republic Contemporaneous Narrative

The article reflects on the term identity as a sociocultural process and its impact in the Caribbean area. Its objective was aimed at the analysis of the presence of the Caribbean identity, as a way to develop the sociocultural competence in the training teachers majoring in Spanish-Literature. Along with the hermeneutic method, and procedures of the literary comparison, it was analyzed a sample of the Cuban and Dominican narrative, in which are depicted through artistic images, the elements of identity that define the folklore, the historic-geographical context, the myths, idiosyncrasy and culture of resilience. Their contents contribute to the understanding of the values of a developing literature with profound local and regional roots; carrying a national character in search of universality.
