Educating Undergraduates on Professional Environmental Values

In Cuba, environmental values education has been stated as a demand in the models of professionals in the different Cuba´s subsystems of education. However, the achievement of such demand has been limited due to existing practical and theoretical insufficiencies that hinder the implementation of education for a sustainable development. The objective of the research project consisted in the elaboration of a methodology based on a pedagogical model for the education of professional environmental values in undergraduates of the specialty of Biology-chemistry. The historical-logical and the analytic-synthetic were the theoretical methods used. The authors presented the results obtained for the defense of a doctorate degree, which yielded as its main outcome, the pedagogical principle of ethical environmental orientation for a sustainable development, a model for the process of professional environmental values education, and the methodology for the introduction of the previous aspects in the initial undergraduates´ education in the specialty of professors of Biology-Chemistry studying at the “José de la Luz y Caballero” University of Pedagogical Sciences.
