Abstract

A theoretical and methodological evaluation was made by the authors of this article about the teaching of the Spanish language and its distinctive and prospective value. The authors took into consideration the most up-dated criteria and bibliography to emphasize on the necessity of knowing and mastering the mother tongue as an element of unification and communication of a given society. It was essential to state that this subject is one of the principal carriers of history and at the same time it reinforces the culture and identity of people. It was also highlighted that through the language different events, actions, feelings, ideas, rules, customs, and authentic values that characterize a nation, are transmitted and preserved from generation to generation; all this can be perceived in the consciousness of its members. To explain the importance of mastering the mother tongue as a support of the cultural identity of people is the objective declared in this article.
