Abstract

The authors show the results of a study aimed at the theoretical systematization of the development of communication skills in the students of the career of Social Communication, of the Technical University of Babahoyo-Quevedo Extension. They focus on the communicative competence of this professional future and they need those basic skills for the performance of the profession, from the stimulation of assertive communication. Basic premises were provided that must be taken into account by the university faculty for the formation of a competent social communicator that responds to the demands of today's society. This was obtained from the use of empirical methods such as observation, document review, interview and survey; and theoretical methods such as the historical-logical, the induction-deduction, the analysis-synthesis. The main professional skills that have to be developed in the students of the Social Communication career were determined.
