The explanatory method as an alternative of independent learning in the Cuban school of the XIX century

In this article, the postulates of José de la Luz y Caballero about the necessity of fomenting in Cuba,a teaching based on the development of the cognitive potentialities of children and youngsters, by means of a pertinent method that promoted an effective learning by the middle of the XIX century are analyzed. The main objective is directed to analyze the theoretical foundations and the practical value of the explanatory method, as a solution to the problems of the learning of the students in Primary and Secondary Educations. The study also values the specificities of the battle deployed by the great educator against the traditional teaching methods that blocked learning. To complete the objective proposed, the author selected the materials and applied the work methods, in correspondence with the demands of the investigational process.
