Abstract

The content of this article is part of a historic research on the life and work of the Cuban educator José de la Luz y Caballero (1800-1862). The main objective stated is related to the analysis of the Luz project about national education, which theoretical foundation and practical application favored the development of a conscience that led the Cuban people to think of the country as a nation from the 30´s in the XIX century. This research revealed the specific characteristics of the national education plan proposed by the Cuban teacher, and highlighted which conception constituted the main procedure in the formation of a strong national spirit upon which was developed the Cuban nation when the basic social conditions were developed. The general method used was the dialectical one, through logical procedures of the scientific knowledge like: the analysis-synthesis, induction-deduction, making emphasis on the application of the historical-logical one.
