National and professional identity in teacher training. Didactical proposals for its development

Abstract

The present work deals with a didactical proposal to improve the lessons on History of Pedagogy at the Pedagogical Universities. It aims at enriching the subject through the channeling of the contents to the development of national and professional identity. Tasks were elaborated, which intend to arouse the students´ affections towards their profession, based on the knowledge and systematization of the traditions in Cuban teaching. The scope and pride of the profession should be an incentive in this objective. The tasks derived from a historic and pedagogical inquiry into the characteristics and regularities of Cuban teaching during the Neocolonial period. Such research used documentary and testimonial sources. The results allowed to design and implement a methodology to foster national and professional identity in today´s educators, both in under and post graduate levels. The methodology was applied at the Pedagogical University of Holguin, with validation criteria from specialists of the whole country.
