Abstract

The study of life and work of José Martí is still a subject of interest for researchers in Latin America. This is so because his ideas are the basis for the comprehension of many problems in contemporary Latin America. The practical and theoretical needs of the Cuban Revolution find in the work of José Martí deep nexus with the Latin American project to obtain the unity among the countries from Bravo to La Patagonia. In the same way, to avoid, with the independence of Cuba –as he himself pointed out- that the United States get extended through the entire America. The deep Americanism which always guided him, not only comprises, in his vision, a wide knowledge of the American identity and patrimony, but a profound analysis of the present he lived in. This armonic relation with the past allow him to project a future under the basis of the unity of “Our America”, to face the danger which, since early times he could see in the North American imperialism. The author, through a detailed study of the work “Martí Anti-imperialist” , by Emilio Roig, offers her criteria and points of view on the reasons why the Cubans have to follow Martí’s ideas and to show to the entire world who he was, very advanced for his epoch in thought and action, the most profound and universal man of America.
