The article presents a quantitative study aimed at evaluating the level of development of intercultural competence among Chinese university students majoring in Hispanic Philology in China. Statistical analyses were conducted to assess this level and to investigate the influence of variables such as gender, the linguistic level of Spanish, and cultural contact on this competence and its dimensions. The sample consisted of 292 Chinese university students of Spanish. The results reveal that the development of intercultural competence involves the incorporation of intercultural skills and attitudes. Neither gender nor the linguistic level of Spanish had a significant impact, underscoring the importance of international experiences. These findings provide empirical evidence for enhancing the intercultural competence of Chinese students in the field of teaching and learning Spanish as a Foreign Language (SFL).
