Biosafety competency training for nursing students in intensive care units

During their training, nursing students rotate through Intensive Care Units (ICU), where they must perform with competencies to protect their personal health during the performance of their duties in the provision of health services. In this order, the objective of this article is the proposal of a procedure for the formation of biosafety competence in nursing students that allows their professional performance in ICUs. To this end, non-experimental documentary research was implemented, using methods such as: analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction, as well as documentary review and the system approach for the elaboration of the proposed procedure. As a result, a theoretical and methodological frame of reference was obtained, which allows an answer to the question of how to form the knowledge, skills and attitudes in nursing students, necessary for biosafety in the ICU. It is concluded that the proposal of a procedure makes possible the transversal formation of biosafety competence as a professional quality to be formed in the student.
