Abstract

This article refers to an investigation regarding the preparation of the teacher of Spanish as a foreign language for online teaching, within the framework of the study on the current state of the improvement of this teacher. The objective was to identify achievements and limitations in the professional performance of teachers of Spanish as a foreign language in public schools in Jamaica. A mixed methodological approach that combined methods, measurement scales and quantitative and qualitative data, was used. The methods, instruments and techniques used were survey, observation and interview. The research identifies limitations in the professional performance of this teacher that are related to theoretical-methodological insufficiencies, highlighting the needs of enhancing the contents for the improvement of this teacher in the Jamaican educational system.
