Abstract

In this article a case was presented referring to Noma, an aggressive orofacial gangrenous pathology that damages hard and soft tissues of the mouth and face. It is a multifactorial process in which factors such as malnutrition, debilitating diseases (systemic bacterial or viral infections, HIV-associated immunosuppression) and intraoral infections intervene, which are infrequently accompanied by ophthalmic disease. As it is an unknown disease in Cuba, it is decided to present it to be worked on in the teaching process of medical students and residents. Document review, observation and the clinical method were used as a method. This pathology requires immediate diagnosis and intervention. Systemic antibiotic therapy and surgical debridement, with intensive monitoring, consists of adequate therapy. Being infrequent the affectation of the organ of vision.
