Particularities of a historical study of the municipality of Calixto García from 1750 to 1868

Abstract

Calixto García is one of the oldest and most important districts of colonial and neocolonial Holguín, due to its strong agricultural economy throughout the region and bearer of sociocultural peculiarities. For this reason, the present research aims to carry out a historical study of this term, framed in the period from 1750 to 1868. In this study, it was revealed as an intermediate point in which the economic dynamics, traditional livestock farming and modernizing sugar production, converged. that transformed their reality and their growth. Stages that highlighted relevant historical events were analyzed, where a qualitative research approach predominated, essentially based on work with bibliographic and oral sources and the analysis of archival documents. The recognition of Calixto García as a colonizing process towards the interior of the lands located to the west of the colonial city, achieved important prominence economically, politically, administratively and religiously, within the Holguín municipality.
