The understanding of echolucent images in ultrasound as a specific competence of the Comprehensive General Practitioner

Abstract

The article evaluates the level of comprehension of the echolucent or liquid images in ultrasound by the Comprehensive General Practitioners (MGI) working at the first level of care in Guantánamo. It is a descriptive, transversal, and quantitative study, carried out between January and July 2023. Theoretical and practical diagnosis on ultrasound and echolucent or liquid images was performed on a sample of 46 MGI selected by simple random sampling. The results showed that the level of understanding of echolucent or liquid images in ultrasound by the MGIs was low, with a mean of 4.2 points out of 10. Significant differences were found according to the work experience and academic training of the MGIs. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the training of MGIs because the understanding of images is an essential competence for the diagnosis and treatment of pathologies that affect the population.
