Reflexiones sobre las cartas de Martí al General Gómez
Abstract
The article analyzes most of the letters sent by José Martí to Máximo Gómez between 1877 and 1894. They express the feelings that moved the Apostle to prepare what he called “the necessary war.” The work collects some ideas of the Maestro today found in our fighting philosophy, which is shown when Martí considers that the Gómez Maceo Plan lacked the necessary constituents to make it viable, stating that “among revolutionaries nothing can substitute the link of the principles”. Later, history would prove that Martí did right by breaking with such a project, which never meant that he was giving up his struggle for independence, thus creating the necessary conditions for true revolutionary unity.
