Training environmental educator competences at the Pedagogical University José Martí

The paper is intended to identifying and naming environmental educator competences. Following a systemic approach, several theoretical methods were used like the analysis-synthesis, induction-deduction and historical-logical. Some basic problems in the professional area of performance were identified, for which five general competences and ten unities of competence must be mastered in relation to the search and processing of information, the design of educative intervening actions from the scientific research, teaching, and of environmental management along with the students’ participation in such process. The features of the competences are fully described in the process of characterizing the environmental educator performance.
