The Nation-State in the philosophical-educational vision of Alberto Lamar Schweye

Abstract

This article addresses the Nation-State problem from the philosophical-educational vision of Alberto Lamar Schweyer (1902-1941), one of the most distinguished Cuban intellectuals in the first half of the 20th century. The article reveals the didactic and philosophical potential of the concept of freedom in the constructive ideal of the Nation-State and its use as bibliographic material for different subjects taught at the university. The objective of the article is to assess the process of enrichment and systematization of the construct of the Cuban Nation-State through the thought of Lamar Schweyer. It also reveals some of the theoretical-methodological contributions that underpin the formation of Cuban philosophical thought in the twenties and thirties of the twentieth century, through the analysis of the historical and cultural context of republican society.
