Abstract

The article deals with a problem of paramount importance for the teaching-learning process of foreign languages: the determination of methodological principles. To do so, the author carries out a profound analysis of different sources which have to do with this theme. This has been done with an analytic-reflective-conclusive approach and with the aid of comparative triangulation, a technique of methodology of scientific research, which is complemented with the author’s own criteria. The main contribution presented in the article consists in the proposal of four methodological guidelines on which the principles are supported and the proposal of eight principles which build up a system. It is important to highlight that the content of the principles comprises the fundamental scientific contribution to foreign language teaching in contemporary times. In the same way, one of the principles is proposed as the ruling and unifying one: The communicative character of foreign language teaching-learning.
